Cambodia - A holiday with a difference at the Moon Shack |

My boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to Cambodia for our December 2006 holiday. It was our first time in this incredibly interesting country. We started our journey in the capital of Phom Penh for a few days and then took a flight up to Siem Reap to experience Angkor Wat at sunrise and Angkor Thom, which was absolutely amazing!
We also took a boat trip into a traditional Cambodian village. Wow! I was humbled to see how some Cambodians live and how friendly and helpful they were. The highlight of our trip was finding the best seafood barbeque restaurant on the beach of Sihanoukville. The Moon Shack is owned and run by a typical Cambodian family. We loved sitting on the beach at their restaurant and ate there almost every night! The food was outstanding and I recommend anyone spending time in Sihanoukville to taste their delicious range of cuisine.
The family were incredible to us, and became our very good friends. We were sad that our trip had to come to an end....but even more sad to have to say goodbye to our humble Cambodian family and friends that we had made at The Moon Shack. My holiday to Cambodia made me realize how we take things for granted in the Western world, and the importance of family. I think about my Cambodian family all the time and wish them all the happiness in the world. I am hoping our paths will cross again some day.
